British American Tobacco Urges Consistency and Stability in Excise Tax Policy

The finance minister said the government would continue policy review and consultation. He said the economy had improved, inflation had declined and foreign exchange reserves had strengthened. He added that the long-term strategy centred on the promotion of exports.

FinMin Aurangzeb said tax enforcement had improved in several sectors, including sugar, cement and tobacco. He maintained that the record action had been taken against illegal cigarette factories, while joint operations continued to curb smuggling.

During the meeting, British American Tobacco called for stability in the excise policy. Concern was expressed over the price gap between legal and illegal products.
