Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed an amendment to the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Act 1975.

The purpose of this bill is to modernize the education system, improve decision-making, and align Pakistan’s education standards with international practices.

Key Changes in the New Bill

1. More Power to the Prime Minister

Many powers that were earlier with the Federal Government will now be handled directly by the Prime Minister, including:

  • Appointment of Chairman

  • Appointment of Finance Committee members

  • Other key decisions in the board

This change aims to make decisions faster and more centralized.

2. Changes in Board Structure

The composition of the education board has been updated:

  • Representatives from all provinces, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan will be included

  • IT experts and education leaders (like from NUST, NUTECH, Curriculum Council) are added

  • CEO of Software Export Board included

This makes the board more modern and inclusive.

3. Focus on Technology & Modern Education

By adding IT experts and institutions, the government wants to:

  • Improve digital education

  • Align education with technology and global standards

  • Prepare students for modern careers

4. International Collaboration

The board will now be able to collaborate with international education boards, which can help improve standards and recognition of Pakistani education globally.

5. Flexible Leadership Terms

  • Chairman can now be appointed by the Prime Minister

  • Terms can be renewed multiple times

This allows continuity in leadership.
