National Assembly Passes New Law for Overseas Pakistanis
Pakistan’s National Assembly has passed a new law called:
“Establishment of Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Act”
This law mainly focuses on protecting the property rights of overseas Pakistanis
Why Was This Law Needed?
Millions of Pakistanis live abroad and send money back home.
But many of them face serious problems like:
-
Illegal occupation of their land or houses
-
Property disputes while they are overseas
-
Long court cases taking years
The government introduced this law to give fast justice to overseas Pakistanis and protect their properties.
What Will Change Now?
✅ 1. Special Courts Will Be Created
New special courts will handle only property cases of overseas Pakistanis.
These courts will work faster than normal courts.
✅ 2. Faster Decisions (Within 90 Days)
The law says cases should be decided as quickly as possible, ideally within 90 days.
This means:
-
Less delay
-
Faster justice
-
Reduced legal stress
✅ 3. Online Court System
Overseas Pakistanis do not need to travel to Pakistan.
They can:
-
File petitions online
-
Attend hearings through video link
-
Give evidence digitally
✅ 4. Strict Action Against Illegal Occupiers
The court can immediately:
-
Stop illegal sale or transfer of property
-
Freeze or attach property
-
Return possession to the real owner
-
Penalize people delaying justice
✅ 5. No Property Transfer During Case
Once a case starts, the disputed property cannot be sold or transferred until the court gives a final decision.
✅ 6. Faster Appeals
If someone disagrees with the decision:
-
Appeal can be filed in High Court within 15 days
-
Appeal must also be decided quickly.
Why This Matters for Pakistan
The bill states that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable asset because they support Pakistan’s economy through remittances.
This law aims to:
-
Build trust among overseas Pakistanis
-
Protect investments in Pakistan
-
Encourage more overseas investment
