LAHORE: The government of Punjab on Monday has decided to suspend Metro bus and Orange Line train services as well as public transport from April 1 in Lahore as coronavirus cases continue to rise in the city.
A high-level meeting under the chair of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has decided to ban indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies from April 1 while markets and shopping malls will close at 6 pm. The meeting also decided to shut all public parks and ban dine-in services at restaurants and the only takeaway will be allowed.
The provincial government has made wearing of face mask mandatory and a policy of micro smart lockdown will also be adopted. During the meeting, it was also decided to strictly enforce coronavirus-related guidelines of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
It is pertinent to mention here that the restrictions will be imposed on cities of the province where the coronavirus positivity rate has reached 12 percent or higher.
Earlier, Health department sources said that the positive rate of coronavirus cases in Lahore has reached 23% while the situation is deteriorating further. If Lahore is not completely locked down, the situation could get out of control.
There have been more than 112,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 2,500 deaths in Lahore.
