Old Peshawar CCTV Video Falsely Linked to Killing of JUI-F Cleric Maulana Muhammad Idrees
Published On 11 May, 2026
Verdict: False
A CCTV video circulating on social media is being claimed to show the killing of JUI-F leader and religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees in Charsadda on May 5, 2026.
The claim is false. The video is not from the Charsadda attack. It is an old clip that appeared online in April 2025 and was linked at that time to a firing incident in Peshawar’s Jameel Chowk area. Soch Fact Check also found the same video posted online on April 27, 2025, which proves it existed before the killing of Maulana Idrees.
What Was Claimed?
Social media users shared a CCTV clip showing a white car stopping on the road. Several armed men can be seen approaching the vehicle and opening fire.
The video was shared with captions claiming it shows the assassination of Sheikh/Maulana Muhammad Idrees, a senior JUI-F figure and religious cleric, who was killed in Charsadda.
What Actually Happened?
Maulana Muhammad Idrees was killed on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when unidentified attackers opened fire on his vehicle in the Tariqabad area of Utmanzai, Charsadda, according to Dawn. Reports also said two of his guards were injured in the attack.
However, the viral CCTV footage being shared with this incident is not related to his killing.
How Do We Know the Video Is Old?
There are two key reasons:
First, the CCTV footage itself shows the year 2025 in the timestamp area, which means it cannot be from the May 2026 Charsadda attack.
Second, the same video was already available online on April 27, 2025, with posts and news reports linking it to a firing incident in Peshawar, not Charsadda. 9newsHD reported that the clip was shared with captions about the Jameel Chowk Peshawar incident, where several people were killed.
Geo News and ARY News also posted reports in April 2025 about firing on a vehicle in Peshawar, and the same CCTV visuals were linked to that older incident.
Final Verdict
The viral CCTV video does not show the killing of JUI-F’s Maulana Muhammad Idrees in Charsadda.
The clip is old and was online as early as April 2025, around one year before the Charsadda attack. It was linked to a separate firing incident in Peshawar.
9NewsHD rates this claim as False.
