Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the nation at 5pm Wednesday, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said.

The prime minister has also called an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet at 2:30pm which will be attended by the leaders of the parties which are in coalition with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Earlier, the prime minister said he will share the "foreign threat letter'' with senior journalists and his allies.

He was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the launch of e-passports in Islamabad.

The prime minister said he will also show the letter to one member of each of PTI's allies in the government.

"People think this is a drama. It is not. We wanted to protect our national interests that's why we couldn't tell the nation about the countries or the people who threatened us," he said.

The prime minister said he will share the letter to quell "the doubts that he is doing this to save his government."

"People can take whatever decision they want, but they should be aware that they don't become a part of a huge international conspiracy," he said.

He called the no-confidence motion a "fair and democratic" mean, adding that these political crisis are "not a new thing in a parliamentary democracy."

"People [do] lose confidence in their party and the no-confidence motion is a fair and democratic mean [to remove a prime minister]," said the PM

However, he called the prevailing crisis a "foreign-imported crisis".

"Those [powers] who used to control Pakistan and get their demands accepted, against our national interests, on one telephone call, they couldn't tolerate a leadership that prioritised its national interest."

The letter

At a public rally in Islamabad’s Parade Ground Sunday, the prime minister claimed that his government has received a “written threat” from outside the country.

He reached to his front qameez pocked and held out a folded piece of paper before the crowd, indicating that it was the letter his government had received.

The prime minister said he was ready to discuss the letter in “off the record” conversations and if anyone has a doubt, they could come to him.

Reading from the paper, the prime minister said more details of the “conspiracy” would be released later.

Petition filled in SC seeking probe of 'foreign threat letter'

An application has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking a probe into the letter, which Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed was a “written” foreign threat that his government received from outside the country.

The petition, filed by Advocate Zulfiqar Bhutta, requests the court to order the government to give the letter to concerned civil and military authorities to investigate its origin.

“The gravity of the situation needs the attention of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take immediate step[s] to find out the truth about [the] subject matter and for this purpose [an] order may be passed to the concerned [government] to deliver the”[l]etter” to the concerned authorities so that by latest mode of investigation, they could out the reality of this [letter] and to see that who threatened our loving Prime Minister,” says the petition.
