While Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chips usually power premium phones, the company says its latest 4-series and 6-series processors could significantly improve the experience on more affordable devices launching in 2026.

Built on a 4nm process, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is designed for budget-friendly smartphones.

The octa-core processor uses Qualcomm’s Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU setup, featuring two 2.4GHz performance cores alongside six 2.0GHz efficiency cores.

Qualcomm claims the chip delivers a 77% boost in GPU performance compared to the previous Snapdragon 4 generation.

The company says users can expect smoother visuals with support for gameplay up to 90fps, while overall performance is said to be 54% better than rival chips, although Qualcomm did not specify which competitor it compared against.

Better battery life and smoother apps

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 also includes several efficiency improvements aimed at extending battery life.

According to Qualcomm, devices powered by the chip could offer:

  • More than one extra hour of video playback
  • Over 90 minutes of additional music playback
  • Around 35 extra minutes of voice calls on a single charge

Other features include Snapdragon Sound with AptX Adaptive audio technology, smoother user interface animations, faster app launches, and support for dual active 5G SIM cards.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is also built using a 4nm process but is designed for users who want stronger gaming and multitasking performance.

The processor uses four 2.6GHz performance cores and four 2.0GHz efficiency cores.

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 delivers a 21% GPU improvement over the previous generation along with better power efficiency.

The chip includes gaming-focused features such as:

  • Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0
  • Snapdragon Game Super Resolution
  • Frames Per Second 3.0 tuning

The company says users may get nearly 40 extra minutes of gaming and at least two additional hours of music playback on a single battery charge.

New connectivity and 5G features

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 introduces support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and BT Channel Sounding technology for item trackers.

Both the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 also support 3GPP Release 17 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 5G modem system.

On the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, Qualcomm says the modem enables up to 25% faster image and data uploads through dedicated upload bands.

Qualcomm says smartphones powered by the new chips are expected to launch during the second half of 2026.

Brands including  Honour, Realmi,  have already signed up to use the processors in upcoming devices.
