The move marks the platform’s first price hike in three years and will take effect from the next billing cycle.

The changes come amid a broader trend of rising costs across streaming services.

The standard YouTube Premium individual plan will now cost $15.99 per month, up from $13.99.

The family plan has also seen a notable increase, rising by $4 to $26.99 per month.

The company stated that the revised pricing aims to sustain core features such as ad-free viewing and background play.

Changes to lite and music plans

YouTube Lite, a more affordable option, will now cost $8.99 per month.

This tier offers ad-free viewing for most videos but excludes YouTube Music Premium and still includes ads on Shorts and music content.

Meanwhile, the standalone YouTube Music Premium subscription has increased by $1, bringing the monthly cost to $11.99.

First price hike since 2021

This marks YouTube’s first subscription price increase in the United States in three years.

YouTube Premium was originally launched in 2018 as a rebranded version of YouTube Red, which debuted in 2015.

The decision follows a broader pattern across the streaming industry.

Platforms like Spotify, Netflix, and Disney+ have also raised subscription prices recently.

These increases are largely driven by rising content production and operational costs.

Despite the price hikes, YouTube continues to see strong growth.

The platform reported that its combined YouTube Music and Premium services surpassed 125 million global subscribers last year, up from 100 million in 2024.
