A goods train derailed near Wahab Shah Railway Station, close to Tando Adam on Sunday, causing several bogies skidded off the track and completely blocking both the up and down railway lines, temporarily suspending rail traffic between Karachi and rest of the country.
According to initial reports, the incident disrupted the movement of several passenger and freight trains, leaving many services delayed.
Soon after the accident, Pakistan Railways’s senior officials along with engineering and rescue teams reached the site and launched operations to remove the derailed bogies and restore the railway tracks.
Railway authorities said the exact cause of the accident could not be determined immediately.
However, an investigation had been initiated to ascertain the circumstances leading to the derailment. Officials added that the schedules of several passenger trains are likely to remain affected until the tracks are fully restored.
Meanwhile, stranded passengers at Hyderabad, Tando Adam and other railway stations opted for alternative means of transport to reach their destinations, while many others continued to wait for the restoration of train services.
Residents of Tando Adam and local social workers also extended assistance to the affected passengers by providing food, clean drinking water and other essential facilities. The passengers appreciated the local community for its timely support and humanitarian spirit.
