National Assembly Passes Civil Courts (Amendment) Act 2024

Pakistan’s National Assembly has approved the Civil Courts (Amendment) Act 2024 for the Islamabad Capital Territory.

Under the new law, if someone wants to challenge (appeal) a decision made by a Civil Judge, the appeal will now go to the District Judge instead of the High Court.

This change is intended to reduce the heavy workload on the Islamabad High Court and speed up the handling of cases.

Why This Law Was Introduced

Property values in Islamabad are very high, and many civil cases involve large amounts of money.
Because of this, too many appeals were going directly to the Islamabad High Court, causing delays.

The amendment shifts many of these appeals to District Courts, helping reduce the backlog in the High Court.

What Will Change

  • Appeals against Civil Judge decisions will go to District Judge

  • Islamabad High Court workload will decrease

  • Civil cases may be resolved faster

Simple Summary

Pakistan has amended the Civil Courts law for Islamabad.
Appeals against Civil Judge decisions will now go to the District Court.
The change aims to reduce case backlog in the Islamabad High Court.
