The Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment has clarified the rights and legal protections available to workers regarding termination of employment in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Bureau, an employment contract in Saudi Arabia may be terminated upon completion of its agreed term, permanent closure of the business, or for disciplinary reasons such as fraud, physical assault, disclosure of confidential information, or persistent refusal to perform assigned duties by the employee.
The Bureau further stated that if an employer or sponsor terminates an employee without a valid legal reason, the employee may be entitled to compensation.
According to the information issued by the Bureau, employees who receive a monthly salary are required to provide 60 days’ notice before terminating their employment, while a 30-day notice period applies to other employees.
