9 News HD: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has registered for the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL) players' draft as a United Kingdom national.

His registration has attracted attention because he could have an advantage over other Pakistani players seeking to take part in the tournament.

According to reports, Amir has acquired British citizenship and is currently living in England. His name appears in the draft list as a UK national, while Pakistan is mentioned as his country of residence. He has also been placed in the Platinum category, the highest player category in the draft.

Amir's British citizenship could mean he does not need a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to participate in the APL. This is important because the PCB is reportedly unlikely to issue NOCs to Pakistani players for the tournament amid tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

More than 30 Pakistani cricketers have also registered for the draft. The list includes well-known names such as Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Hasan Ali, Shan Masood and Imad Wasim. However, their participation depends on receiving the required clearance from the PCB.

The APL draft is scheduled to take place in Dubai on November 3, 2026. The tournament is expected to feature five teams and bring together Afghan and international players.

Amir last represented Pakistan in June 2024 during the T20 World Cup. His entry into the APL draft has now raised interest in his next move in franchise cricket, although his selection by a team is yet to be confirmed.
